Best beginner padel rackets under $200
Updated October 19, 2026. Racket lists on this page update daily from our database.
You don't need an expensive racket to learn padel. In your first months, what helps is a racket that forgives off-center hits and is easy on the arm. Those are usually the cheaper ones anyway, because they use softer materials.
What makes a racket beginner-friendly
- Round or teardrop shape. The sweet spot sits in the middle of the face, where most of your hits land. Diamond rackets move it toward the top and punish mistimed shots.
- Low to medium balance. Weight near the hand makes the racket quicker to move and easier to control at the net.
- A soft core and a fiberglass face. Softer materials give the ball more push on slow swings and pass less shock to the elbow. Stiff carbon faces reward strong, well-timed swings you won't have yet.
- Not too heavy. Most adult rackets we track weigh between 345 and 375 g. Lighter is easier to handle; heavier is steadier on hard balls.

How we picked
This list is built from our own data, not from paid placements, and we have not play-tested these rackets. A racket is on it when:
- its lowest in-stock price at the US stores we check is $200 or less, with US shipping included, from a check in the last 7 days;
- it is round, or the brand rates it beginner or intermediate, and it is not a diamond;
- it is not head-heavy (no stated high balance; with no stated type, a balance point of 270 mm or less) and weighs 370 g or less.
A price with the green shield passed today's full price check. Prices without it are from an earlier check this week and dated. Some stores charge shipping on orders under $100, and we only list prices where we know the shipping cost, so very cheap rackets can be missing here.
When to spend more
Once you play twice a week and your strokes are consistent, a carbon face and a firmer core give more control and power for the same swing. That's when a racket in the $250 to $300 range starts to make sense: see the best padel rackets under $300. Before then, the money is better spent on lessons and a few spare overgrips.
